PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
The application and implementation of theory and research relevant to understanding the health of various populations and decreasing health disparities, intervention development and community based evaluation of health programs (monitoring, needs assessment, process, formative, summative, impact, program implementation).
Topical areas of interest: chronic disease self-management, nutrition, cardiovascular disease, mental health/stress management, sexually transmitted diseases, infectious diseases, public health preparedness and designing health related interventions for diverse populations. Expertise includes academic and community partnerships, community-based participatory research, cultural competency, health disparities research, health promotion/prevention in minority populations, the use of social media and web-based technologies to disseminate health ideas through social networking sources (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
Familiarity in communications/media and alternative ways to deliver health messages to public audiences. Developed and disseminated PSA’s to internet radio stations that focused around health and wellness; communicated research findings on various types of diseases to the listening public and diversified communities. Educate the public and listeners about infectious and communicable diseases including prevention. Identifying public health issues and their impact on listeners was a priority. Prepared and edited messages before broadcasts.
